Tips on Selecting and Leading Worship Songs for BOL1 [note from Andrew]

Hi BOL1 brothers and sisters in Christ

 

Some of you have been assisting in selecting songs for our short worship session before each discussion time. ’s quite simple.  You just choose the songs – can be by youtube or prepare a handout and help introduce the song.

Tips on Selecting and Leading Worship Songs for BOL1

 

Psalm 33: ¹ “Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.² Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.³ Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.”

 

Purpose – Understand the purpose - To Praise. To prepare participants. To invite God to fellowship with us even as we collectively unite in singing.

 

þ Pray – Seek the Lord’s guidance as you prepare and select the songs.

 

þ Theme – Is there a theme for that particular session? E.g. the study topic or passage.  Ideally align/connect the song choices with the topic  But not always necessary.

 

þ Time – How much time is available for worship/singing? (10 – 15 minutes)

 

þ Select song(s)

 

þ Choose method for presenting the songs

 

 

 

Equipment Needed / Available	Youtube   or powerpoint slide        or                      Hand out
	þ Laptop?   þ Projector?   þ Sound projection?   þ Reliable Internet connection?	þ Prepared Text of Handout?   þ Printed enough copies?   þ Musical accompaniment?   þ Or can be sung without  instrument
Preparation	þ For Youtube method, listened to the whole video?   þ No awkward gaps (silence, flow, talk)?   þ Words of songs appear on video throughout?   þ If using powerpoint, prepare slides (minimum Font 18)	þ Checked that the musician can play the song?
	þ Comfortable pitch for the songs? (if pitch in the video is too high, look for another video with a more singable pitch)   þ Checked length of time for all the songs?   þ Shared the song choices with facilitator/teacher?
On the Day Itself	þ URL preloaded without Ads and tested on site?	þ Text printed out with sufficient copies?
	þ Pray for God’s presence Introduce the songs (only if needed) e.g. why the song was chosen; words or phrases that are particularly significant; bible reference, history of song.
